Between Thanksgiving and New Year's, cleaners across the Peninsula fill up fast. If you are hosting, a little planning makes the difference between a calm house and a stressful one. Here is a simple timeline.
Two to three weeks before
- Book your cleaning now: see your price and pick a day. The days right before holidays go first.
- Declutter entryways, guest rooms and the kitchen.
- Decide what you want done: a deep cleaning is ideal before a big gathering.
The week before
- Wash guest bedding and towels, and set out fresh ones.
- Wipe door handles, light switches and banisters, since guests touch them all day.
- Clear out the fridge to make space for holiday food.
- Dust ceiling fans, vents and light fixtures.
The day before
- Give the bathrooms a final wipe and put out fresh hand towels.
- Take out trash and recycling.
- Clear the kitchen counters, so you have room to cook.
- Set up a spot for coats and shoes.
The finishing touches
Small details make a home feel ready for company: a clean sink, a folded roll of toilet paper, a clear counter and fresh towels. Our team likes to add finishing touches like these. See them in our photo gallery.
After the party
A regular cleaning a day or two after the holiday gets the kitchen, floors and bathrooms back to normal. Many clients schedule it ahead of time with their pre-holiday visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I book a cleaning before the holidays?
Two to three weeks ahead is ideal. The days right before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's fill up first.
Should I get a deep clean or a regular clean before guests arrive?
A deep clean is best if the home has not had one recently, since it covers baseboards, door frames and fixtures. A regular clean works if the home is already in good shape.
Do you clean after the party too?
Yes. Many clients book a regular cleaning right after the holiday.
